ABOUT
REDANG ISLAND (PULAU REDANG) ITSELF
As
the rays of the midday sun dive into Redang Island (Pulau
Redang) brilliant crystalline depths, a whole world
of colour is illuminated. Spin out over the delightful
anemones, and marvel at the hues of corals and clams.
On the other hand, land-bound tourists may partake in
some admiration of the regional flora and fauna along
the many jungle treks on the island.
The
largest of Terengganu's archipelagoes, Redang Island
(Pulau Redang) is the centre of a large-scaled marine
park. As one of the few marine parks in Malaysia, Redang
Island (Pulau Redang) and its underwater inhabitants
are protected by the Fisheries Act (1985). This means
that no fishing is to be carried out within a 3.2 km
radius of the island. Collecting coral and aquatic life,
even as souvenirs, is prohibited.
As
to be expected, a wide choice of accommodation is available.
From basic camping facilities to plush resorts, visitors
can either beach themselves with an air of nonchalance,
veg-out by the pool, jump into the various water-based
activities or even play a round of golf.
Recognised as the rainbow-hued jewel in Terengganu's
amazing crown of islands, you can't visit Terengganu
and not take a trip out to Redang Island (Pulau Redang).
Located 50 km off the coast, the best way of getting
there is to board a boat either at the jetty in Kuala
Terengganu, Besut or Marang. The trip should take about
two hours.
For
water adventurers, the nearby islands of Ekor Tebu,
Ling, Pinang, Lang Tengah and Lima are snorkelling and
diving havens.
